19.7.2020 – Gene Predictis is a medical testing laboratory, authorised by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and Swissmedic to carry out COVID-19 tests. We are located at EPFL Innovation Park.
In the current sanitary context, Gene Predictis laboratory proposes both a diagnostic test and serological tests for COVID-19 to help you adapt to this new situation and increase safety for all by offering on-site testing for COVID-19.
The diagnostic test
This test can be performed in case of suspicion of COVID-19 disease following a clinical examination by a physician or in the presence of one or more characteristic symptoms (cough, sore throat, fever, fatigue, sensation of muscle pain, shortness of breath, loss of smell and taste). The test is also recommended if the SwissCovid application indicates that you were in close contact with an ill person and should be tested.
This diagnostic test, known as “PCR”, detects the presence of the specific genetic material of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the cause of the disease, and establishes the diagnosis of the infection. It is done on a nasopharyngeal swab obtained by inserting a swab into the nose. This procedure must be performed by a doctor or nurse. Our nurse, who is qualified to perform this type of sampling, is at your service. The results are given back within 24 hours following the reception of the sample.
Currently, only molecular tests by PCR on samples from the upper or lower airways performed by health professionals are recognized for the diagnosis of COVID-19.
The price of this test, set by the FOPH, is CHF 119. It is paid for by the Confederation if the symptoms are present or if there is a notification, via SwissCovid application, to perform the test.
Those tests allow to determine whether the person has been in contact with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and whether he or she has developed antibodies against this virus. Studies have demonstrated that, following the contact with SARS-CoV-2, human body produces an immune response: IgM antibodies are detectable in the initial phases of the infection and IgG antibodies are detectable 10 to 14 days after appearance of the first symptoms. For these reasons, the detection of IgM antibodies takes place at the same time as the PCR test, when symptoms are present, whereas the IgG test is relevant at the earliest 14 days after the onset of symptoms. Current knowledge does not allow to conclude whether an infection with CoV-2-SARS confers protective immunity against a future infection with the same virus.
This test is performed on a blood sample. The sampling must be performed by a doctor or nurse. Our qualified nurse, is at your service for blood draws.
The serological test is currently only covered by the Swiss Confederation in cases when PCR tests do not provide a clear diagnosis of the disease. The price of this test, set by the FOPH, is CHF 63.
Diagnostic or serological tests performed outside of the conditions defined by the FOPH are at the expense of the person tested or the employer (if the test is performed at the employer’s request).
